How we make money

When you send a quote request, it goes to a licensed insulation contractor who covers your area. We get paid a fee for that hand-off. The contractor pays it, or a lead service does. You never do. This site costs you nothing, and the fee does not change your quote. We do not set what contractors charge, and we are not part of your deal with them.

Some pages link to products. Respirators, tool rentals, materials. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra.

Commission does not decide what we tell you to do. Sometimes the better answer is to buy nothing. Or to rent instead of buy. Or that the cheap one is good enough. When that is the answer, that is what the page says.

There is an obvious problem with this setup. We earn more when you hire a contractor. And a lot of what we write tells you that you do not need to.

We settle it in your favor. That is the right thing to do, and it is also the smart thing. A site that tells everybody to hire someone is worth nothing to a homeowner, and people stop reading it. The advice here is what we would tell a neighbor. So:

• Our main removal page opens by telling most readers they do not need removal at all.
• Our decision guide exists to talk people out of the pricier option when the cheap one works.
• The vermiculite page has no quote form at all. Insulation contractors are not asbestos removal contractors, and sending that job to one would be wrong for you.

• We do not sell your information to unrelated advertisers.
• We do not dress up paid ads as our own advice.
• We do not publish reviews or star ratings. We have no real ones.
• We do not accept payment to change what a page says.
